The OOC (aka the O'Shea Outdoor Cinema, also known as the "Double-O C") officially launched on June 9th, 2007 with a gala premiere of the original version of "E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial"

What a perfect night to open the season! The weather was in the mid-80s during the day, setup was a breeze, the food was awesome and the crowd was loving the show (I think many were skeptical as to what the hell I was doing, but were impressed by the effort I'd put into it).

After the fine folks here convinced me that blackout cloth was a solid way to go (and since the screen ended up being scaled down a bit in size due to throw rate calculations), I put a reinforced frame together with 2X4s and the blackout cloth came in just the way I needed it...seamless! It's a comfy 9' in diagonal and fits the shallow depth of my cozy seating arena nicely.

I have an unassuming little setup and I'm running the dynamic little warhorse (the Optoma DV10 - which throws an awesome picture!) with an optical cord that runs back and into the house to the nearby amp.

I was more than satisfied with my humble sound set-up (rock speakers and the Optoma subwoofer did the trick nicely - it's amazing how effective Virtual Surround Sound is). The pre-show was a big hit with old drive-in commercials, a short, previews of current and coming attractions and the awesome "Welcome To Our Outdoor Theater" piece just before the show! 

Again, I need to thank all the fine folks who encouraged, suggested, prodded and helped me along the way!

"E.T." was the perfect choice!

"Ferris Bueller's Day Off"

Had a private showing of "Grease" tonight....what a great movie to watch outside! We're having a movie-only night next Saturday of "Hot Fuzz"...it'll be arriving from England on Tuesday and I've heard it's a hoot!

Hello Mao, nice set-up.  I'm  a newbie to the forum and I was just wondering where you got the icon with that reads OShea Outdoor Cinema.  I think that it is so coool.  Also you mentioned that you have "Welcome to the outdoor theater" that you play before your movie.  That would be way cool to do. Did you download that or did you have to purchase that from a website.  I've seen website's where  you could order dvd's that have your name already on them.  Just wondering if that was the case with you.

The 20th Century-Fox like logo is made with a program called Blender. There are a couple of threads about it in the "Pre-show, intros, etc" thread. If you want, I would be glad to make you a still in a matter of a few minutes. The animated flying intro takes many hours, though.

Well, "Hot Fuzz" was a great success! I'm glad I could get away with an R-rated movie in my hood (Language and violence with an English accent just seems more acceptable, I guess!)

Last night saw a cozy, warm, and wonderful screening of "Independence Day" - couple pix below...(I love my Optoma DV10!)

Planning a movie-only screening (all the other screenings are preceeded by BBQs) on July 14 of either "Jaws" or "Ghostbusters"....or "Hairspray" or "Die Hard" or "Rocketeer" or "Back To The Future" or.....the choices are too endless!

Biggest family show of the season last night...drew 15 people into our humble cinemafor a great BBQ/potluck (and a surpise post-birthday party for me!!)

"The Incredibles" is nothing short of an amazing experience in an outdoor setting....

Two weeks off and then a special Hollywood style "sneak preview", then it's on to "Wild Hogs" on August 18th.....can't believe the seaon's halfway done already!!!!

Looks like "Wild Hogs" was the movie of choice for lots of BYT folks. Started the evening off with a great BBQ and buzzed into a strong 25 minute pre-show with trailers, a clip from the new "Hairspray" movie, an animated short and then on to the main feature.

A solid turnout of 12 souls (my neighbors just don't get it yet...)

We officially closed the OOC Inaugural 2007 Season this evening with a sparkling showing of "The Wizard Of Oz", still a magical experience after 68 years!

You know me and pictures....

There were 9 of us at this special screening and Neva even came dressed in an authentic "Dorothy" costume! My dog Brewster even got into the act as Toto....We had a blast!

Here's a few pictures, red slippers and all! Can't wait until next season!

The season has changed a bit and I finally had the chance to grab the camera and snap of few shots of our big family night Saturday. "Horton Hears A Who" was a smashing success! A nice crowd of 16 folks braved a very hot day...when the sun went down, a slight breeze made it all bearable.

Some great new trailers (including HSM3) preceded the feature - a good time was had by all (and it was my birthday, too!)
