First showing Saturday night
«

Finally had my " opening night" for my backyard theater this past Saturday. I had a group of 20-25 people over for my Mom's birthday. We had a cookout and then watched "Young Frankenstein". I had made a pre-movie dvd of my introduction and some old drive-in clips. A few of my friends asked if I had the "dancing hotdog" clip which I did. I was having issues with my camera so I did not get any pictures from that night. It was a blast to see everyone enjoying themselves during the movie. It makes it all worthwhile.
It was the first time I used my new screen with a group of people. I had started off with a tarp and some pvc, tried the Gemmy, and am now on the screen I am currently using. I made it out of 2x4 treated lumber. The screen material is the Trapeze120 with the EasyKlips to attach it to the frame. I attatched my front left, center, and front right speakers to the frame. I spray painted the frame with a flat black color. It has hinges on the frame to fold over for easier storage in my garage. I attached my surround speakers to my deck and a post at the corner of my house. I have attached a couple of pictures.
After the response from Saturday's gathering, I think I can quit screwing around with screens for awhile and concentrate on which movies to watch. Next Saturday we are going to cookout again and watch Monty Python's Holy Grail.

Great screen, Adam12!! Gotta love the Trapeze. Nice and flat, isn't it?
That's a clean setup with your fronts and center mounted on the frame. What did you come up with to lock the hinged portion in place?
Glad to hear all went well for your opening night.

That's a nice screen. You should have no issues with wind. Good work Adam12.

That's a really nice screen. I like the way everything is in one piece and it folds up too.
Good job!

I used tee hinges and some heavy duty barrel bolts to lock the frame in place. They seem to be holding up very well.

Do you stake it down to the ground or use tie downs or just rely on the feet of the frame to keep it upright in a wind gust? I know I would still use tie downs because one big gust of wind and a screen is really just a sail without a boat...

I haven't used anything yet to anchor it. It probaly weighs between 35-40 lbs. I set it up on the concrete in front of my extra garage in my backyard. I do have some concrete blocks I can use if it does get windy. It works out nice because all my audio equipment stays in the garage. The only thing I have outside besides the screen is the projector on a cart with a power cord and component cable running to it. I ran underground cable for the surround speakers. My goal now is to figure out how to use it for rear projection with out getting a hot spot on the screen. It would be nice to keep my projector in the gargage out of harms way. Any suggestions on how to mount it for rear projection would be appreciated.I am attaching a picture of the gararge where I set the screen. I only set the screen about 2-3 feet at the most from the garage opening.

Hiredpower.....lol
I was just going for the site not a particular color. I would hope that if someone got on there, they could navigate to the screen material...... But....have you ever tried purple? If you haven't....don't knock it...lol

It was $77.99 for 3 yds. of the Tarapeze Lt. That included the ups charges. It was $20.95 a yard. The light Trapeze really stretches. Hope that helps.

Oh God........The Color Purple is almost the longest movie ever....was it like 5 hours or did it just seem that way?
Ranks up there with Born on the 4th of July with some of the movies I hate.
