Here are the pics from the first Cool Hop Drive-In in Kenmore, NY. The Infocus 1200 arrived four hours before showtime. I ran surround sound pro logic through the backyard and used Dano's Danoplex 2 screen (which the wind wreaked havoc with) as the projector.

Somewhere between 20-30mph when it went down. The screen was acting as a sail, and the connections in the center part of the frame popped apart under the pressure of the screen bungeed to it when the wind wasn't going.

This is what Garretts screen is supposed to look like!

Dano

Sorry the wind was less than nice to you.  Good thing though.....PVC can be repaired.

As the top pic shows we got the screen bungeed into position before the film started, but the upper center pvc popped free again. My father (a contractor) is visiting and helping me get the screen into tiptop shape.

When I am hired to do a job when the winds get to be anywhere from 15-20mph I call it off, as I have stated in my contract.  It is not safe for the audience nor is it safe for my equipment.  I am sure you learned the equipment lesson already.

My father is in town and helping me super-secure the screen to prevent future devastation. Can't wait to get a chance to test it out.

Garrett,

I can't tell by the photo exactly, but I think you have the center section backwards.  The verticle members are supposed to jut back away from the screen so it is suspended around the frame not touching anything except the bungees on the outer sides.

Well here goes another season. July 3rd we're opening with True Romance, a great movie with a great cast, written by the great Tarantino... and no one seems to have seen it. It's like having a first run!

We've moved the screen location 90 degrees in the yard, against the shed, and I picked up an 8 foot screen for 4 bucks at a garage sale. Today I'm working with a co-worker to find a way to mount the screen securely and create mounts for the speakers. More news on the way.

Prime seats waiting for an audience, as a coil of incense prepares the yard against mosquito invasion.

Back for its second year is my Infocus projector. A top o' the line workhorse back in its day, I can't believe I got it on ebay for only 200 smackeroos. Now we're attaching it to my wife's laptop. Mine isn't powerful enough to output a smooth picture.

Here is my stereo receiver, a Circuit City special from May 98. How do I remember that? It was my college graduation gift to self. Speakers and subwoofer came with the package. It handles prologic but nothing fancier than that. I wished to upgrade this by now, but on a barista's salary, that ain't bloody likely.

Here's a nice shot of both the subwoofer and the rear speaker. I shyed away from the subwoofer for a while out of laziness, but it takes away bass work from the little speakers and makes a noiticeable difference, especially in True Romance from last night.

Here's the new stuff. The bookshelf speakers that came with the receiver/amp are now mounted against the shed on movie nights. Way cool and impressive quality improvement. Second, the screen is not the Dano 2, it is a four dollar find from a garage sale two blocks away. I was thirty seconds too late to pick up another projector for ten dollars (a fairly nice Epson with a dead bulb) but pried the screen from the Epson buyer by scaring him how much he'd have to spend on the bulb. Hee hee. Eight feet long. It hangs from two shed-mounted hooks. I'm going to try to have my brother-in-law remove the tripod.
