We really never plan showings except for our annual showing of the "Polar Express" and when the High School Musical II mania hit. But after seeing  "Horton Hears a Who" last month in theaters; when the DVD release happens,  we will probably plan a viewing party. That was one of the best animated films i have seen sense "Monsters Inc".

I'm figuring a Memorial Day release for this classic.

If you're having trouble deciding if it's kid/teen friendly

I usually look at the parental guide section for movies on IMDB.com.

Example...

  http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0829482/parentalguide

175 F-words!  Sheesh!

I use this site

http://www.commonsensemedia.org/

It is free and gives a lot information about the movie.  Especially useful for the PG13 movies. Here is an example:

Well,

I'm new hear but we have been watching movies outdoors and indorr for quite some time now. We have redone our pation with a full bar conversion, pool, and fireplace just to spend extra time outside.

Our schedule? Well we just pick one and go we have on hand about 300 DVDs, and who knows how many VHS tapes. We have watched already this year Serenity, Spaceballs, Shrek, and Star trek Nemesis. Since we live in FLorida we can watch pretty much year round.

This week Im thinking Indiana Jones or National Treasure in anticipation of bothe releases.

I don't have any definite schedule made up yet, but am also thinking ahead.  It's fun to dream up double-features and theme nights.

CLOVERFIELD will be on Friday, May 16th.

At some point in the future we'll be watching:

Pee-Wee's Big Adventure
Raising Arizona
Nightmare Before Christmas
Cars
No Deposit, No Return (Darren McGavin & Don Knotts)
Ghost and Mr. Chicken
A Christmas Story

Theme nights/Double-Features, etc:

Darren McGavin night: episodes of Kolchak: The Night Stalker
Vincent Price night: Tomb of Ligeia, The Tingler
Spider Baby, Old Dark House (1932)
Frankenstein, Son of Frankenstein
Beach night: Beach Blanket Bingo, Psycho Beach Party
Fantastic Four (1st and 2nd).

I know I have many more of these written down somewhere...

Sorry, just getting caught up with this thread and thoughtthis was kind of funny...

Quote
The last time she saw it, was in the theater in the 1930's, and she still talks about what a great movie she thought it was.   She's going to be so excited to hear we finally found the movie for her.

My father-in-law (who NEVER goes to movies) used to talk about this movie that he'd seen ages ago (like back in the early 50s) called Mr Hulot's Holiday. He thought it was SO funny. So after we got him a VCR (probably 10 years ago) he talked about it even more. A couple of years later we finally found a VHS copy of it and of course gave it to him for Christmas. We make a big deal about watching all together. Turns out....

He falls asleep within 10 minutes. It's in B&W which is no big deal, really, but it's French. And it's almost like Mr. Bean. I'm guessing Mr. Bean IS the English version. So, VERY little dialog and long setups to really bad punch lines. The movie was really bad, at least we thought so. He's never spoken of it since.

So don't be surprised if this happens to you too!

Here is ours:

Premire Event 5/24: National Treasure
6/4: Calendar Girls (Event for my wife's teacher friends)
Monty Python and the Holy Grail
Independence Day
Grease (maybe)
Cars
Horton Hears a who (hopefully)
Maybe a Harry Potter episode
Ferris Buelers day off
Office Space
I Robot
What ever else comes up.  I have to be somewhat careful as the screen faces the street.  I might have to think about teiring out my back hill so I can show a wider variety of titles.

After watching "Rocky Balboa" a couple of days ago, I went out and bought the entire Rocky saga(1-5 plus Rocky Balboa) for $24.95 at Best Buy. I was shocked that a lot of my son's friends (and my teenage son) had never seen ANY of the Rocky movies! I had to put an end to that!  Great motivational movies for athletes, plus I love the theme song! Rocky film festival this summer, motivational movie madness nites!
Nolstalga for us old timers, too. (I saw the 1st Rocky 1976 at the drive-in.  We all yelled, honked our horns and cheered! I was just a little mac at the time!)  Enjoy!

Official opening night for the Spring Avenue Starlight was rained out last night...it was to be "Raiders of the Lost Ark" in time to get re-excited about Indiana Jones before the new one comes out this week.

Sent an email out about 8PM confirming that Mother Nature must not be an Indiana Jones fan and said we were going to show it tonight...even though it's a Sunday/School night, we probably had more folks RSVP than the original night!  No one had other plans  Grin.  Forecast is clear...
