First Crack @ It.

This is my first crack at building a outdoor theater. I used 1/2 inch black pipe and connectors.
(Inspiration supplied by the forum, thanks Paul16mm, hired power, rFisk, all).

This is the projector stand and sound system that I made from more black pipe and scrap plywood.
(Kinda proud of this) The sound is really amazing. Old Bose 901's inside the plywood boxes and a Kenwood KVR 125 amp. The whole system is up and running in a few minutes. (It's on wheels that lock in place).

Another shot. I was careful to measure the poles and then screwed it up anyway by having them reversed. Looks better now that I switched them. The screen is 16 x 10 with Trapeze fabric and thick nylon sewn around the outside edge. The edge has a pocket sewn in where 1/2 inch PVC is incerted to prevent the spider effect with the ball bungee and crocodile clips. There are heavy duty guy wires that clip on to the eye bolts, just in case. I didn't need them as the back yard is completly surrounded by trees. The poles are sunk in the ground 3 feet. They slip into burried galvanized tubes that I keep covered with grass green PVC covers when not in use. (I dug the holes with a garden planter attachment and a hammer drill).

Cinema BBQ -
GREAT JOB! Looks similar to my PVC screen. In your first pic it looks like maybe the bottom sags a bit? I had that problem and switched out the "t"-ends on the middle bottom for "+"-ends" and added two more legs in the middle. No more sag!
Good luck!

Thanks Tom, There is no sag on the frame (solid steele). The screen is now getting re-sewn so there is more tension. The little bit of wind made it look saggy. I will be posting one more (action shot) once the final screen is done.

Looks good. My only comment is the need for guide wire or ropes. You might not need it now, but always try to plan for the unforeseen chance you get a gust. I don't always tie the ropes down to the tent spikes but they are there if I need them. Also is this a one man setup or does it take two people to get it standing?
2cents.

Nice looking setup - screen and AV stands. I like that avatar graphic, too. Attention to detail in every aspect. Thanks for sharing the great pics.

Yeah...I forgot about this. My setup uses three on each side (one to the front, one to the back and one to the side). You never know! There have been times I've been REALLY glad I use them.

Tom, I agree. Note my plans. I have guy-wires at 4 points. (not seen in pic).

Great job, Cinema BBQ! I love these stands for your gear. They are nearly exactly what I had in mind when I originally planned to build my system out on our back hill.
Welcome and thanks for posting pics! I'll add you to the featured list tonight.
Glad you're here and having fun. Nice Avatar!

That is a very cool setup. I especially like your audio setup. Great way to give those old Bose speakers some height. And the fact that they have rear drivers like a bipolar speakers, the sounds must be very nice outdoors!
