Had a great day this July 4th. Went to La Jolla Shores beach here in southern california. My fireworks show was lame this year, small and very uneventful. Other then that and the over cast cold weather after a hot day yesterday, it was a great day.

Last minute family talked me into putting up a screen, which I was not prepared to do. No license video to watch. With a little love from this forum I was able to scrape up some Public Domain cartoons and made a great DVD. I also did not seek a permit to setup a screen. I took one of my small ones the 10' backyard screen. Luckily the generator didn't bother anyone, and I didn't get hassled. I think the cops were more interested in the Booze ban on all public San Diego beaches and writing tickets (tough economy you know, the local government needs slush fund money)

We started out playing Wii until it was dark enough that everyone could enjoy the cartoons. The beach was crowded so I didn't get the throw distance I needed with the projector and I forgot my command center so I didn't have the projector height I wanted neither. I found a way to make due, it was funny because only about 75% of a 10' screen was being used but we must of had a few hundred people camping out around my big Italian family enjoying the cartoons as well. It was real cool guys. The best part was when an old black and white cartoon came on called "Star Spangle Banner" It was an old wartime sing-a-long cartoon. Anyways it sounded like the whole crowd was singing behind us. Cant describe how cool it was and totally unexpected. I will tell you I saw every human race and ethnicity on the beach today and they all showed up to celebrate the 4th of July. I was just in "ah" listening and watching the crowd behind me. It was brief but a moment I will never forget.

If only I timed it better and it was playing during the fireworks. Still very memorable.

I took some pictures and thought I would share. Starts off with me playing Wii boxing.

Looks like you had a great time Rich. I wish I was able to do show movies on the beach. Unfortunately it would be a hike for the equipment to get to an ideal private spot in Santa Cruz.

La jolla is nice- I haven't been there is decades. I used to live nearby in University City but my vacation home is almost done so I'll be there again.
