Well, the DCinema Revolution has made the jump to the Drive-In Theater.  Spud Drive-In has gone 100% DCinema compliant including surround sound.

I now need to make a road trip to Driggs Idaho, anyone else game?

Just a reminder that 2k digital has less resolution than 35mm film, its pretty much the same resolution as a full 1080p, but does have the goodness of 3x dlp technology. Personally I would not bother driving along way to see if I could see the difference. Now if they are using it for 3D that I would like to see!

Now how exactly do you get surround sound in your car? I guess if you have a 5.1 speaker system already installed as your car stereo you would be sweet, but otherwise is it just regular stereo with the phasing trick? Plenty of fm based drive in's that do that with film.

Texas Instruments are finally releasing the new 4k chip, 4x the resolution of home technology and I suspect superior in quality to 35mm that has been the basis for Drive in cinema for the last 110 years or so.

The Boulevard Drive In in Kansas City Kansas has updated to a 4k digital projection system. They say it has four times the resolution of blu ray. They played Raiders and Back to the future for free a couple weeks ago to show off the new system. The image was certainly superior to any Drive in image I've ever viewed, particularly dark and night time scenes which usually look terrible at the DI. That said, the image didnt look that much better than my 720p LCD and 140 IN screen I use in the backyard. Granted, these were older movies on a 100ft by 50ft screen and there was a very bright full moon that night, but four times better than blu ray? Maybe when the Avengers comes out next month, it will be a better demonstration.
