I didn't see until a few minutes ago a calculator that did what I wanted so I made one in Excel.  It allows you to:

* figure out the diagonal given length and height
* calculate height given width or width given height (using a 16:9 ratio)

Its pretty simple to use.  If you have any questions though you can ask me.  Just thought I would share.  I haven't made my screen yet and was mulling over options.  Hopefully this can help someone else as well.

There is a calculator at Projector Central that also allows you to calculate your throw based on your PJ.

I saw that calculator post many times but it never answered my question when trying to figure out how big a screen to make.  If nothing else I needed to know the diagonal for bragging rights alone!  Grin  Its also helpful to know how much screen I am cheating myself out of by getting a 12' diagonal Gemmy inflatable instead of building a 16'x9' (18 1/2' diag).  My backyard is small so the 12' is best. <sniff>  I guess...

This is the site I found just before I published my own calculator.  http://www.silisoftware.com/tools/screen.php

It's OK, but I didn't really want my numbers in inches.  By the way, on my calculator, you enter the numbers as a whole number or decimal and it displays the answers by rounding to the 1/2 foot and displays it as a fraction.

Thanks for the Excel calculator, Underdog. If it makes you feel any better, I like yours better than the website you linked anyway  Smiley

Thank you, kind sir.

In the meantime, where can I find a calculator that will give me the XX:XX ratio if I provide the height/width measurements??

NEW AND IMPROVED!!!

I am attaching my new and improved screen size calculator in Excel.  It has some new features including:
*  Tabs for 16:9, 22:9, and 4:3 ratios
*  Measurements in feet and inches for the ratio selected.
*  Gives you additional measurements within 2 feet + or - of the one you originally entered in a little grid below your selection.
*  Formatted so you can print landscape on one page.

This is purely for determining the length, height, and diagonal measurements of a screen.  This is not a calculator for throw distance.

It is pretty self explanatory, but if anyone has any suggestions to make it easier to understand, just let me know and I might be able to make the changes.

I personally GUARANTEE you will like this version better or Frosty Freeze will eat a bug!

She's strictly organic so it only the ones from her garden! Grin

Hopefully, others will have some use of the calculator.  I think it helps to gauge just how big a screen you can fit in your space.

The first calculator was downloaded over 200 times.  If you have downloaded it before, you might really like the new version.   Grin
