I found this photography/travel blog recently and have been browsing through posts - came across this one tonight with photos & details of drive in theaters in the US, most of them closed.  Some pretty cool photos of theaters, lot of marquees:

I am a little disappointed that the one 5 minutes from my house in NJ wasn't on the list.

That's a nice archive, thanks for posting.  Lots of style in many of the old drive-ins.  They always fascinated me.

I really enjoyed scrolling through the photos, but at the same time, it made me a little sad. The Drive-in was such a big deal when I was a kid.

We had two Blatt Brothers drive ins in this area years ago.
The one in the picture was a single screen and about 5 miles away was a "Twin Drive-In".

The single screen was torn down and in it's place is an Eat n Park and shopping center.
The twin closed and was turned into apartments and is now a huge industrial area.

Glad you all liked the link!   There's still an active 3 screen drive in near me that's not mentioned - Mansfield Drive In:

Randy - Would you move this over to the "Drive-in Theater discussion" forum when you get the chance?  I forgot about that forum and should have posted it there.

This was one of my drive-ins in the 60s early 70s.

Did it close down in the 70's. Everytime I drive by there I want to go in there with my projector and try reliving the glory days of the drive-in thearter.

I got out of the business in 1978.  Some of the D-I: Morrisville, Ewing, 202, 309, Quakertown, Airport, 61 street, Mainline, Vally Forge, Ridge Pike.
It was a great time for D-I in the 60 & 70s.

I guess we are lucky out here we have the Mission Tiki Drive In. They are actually down a few days while they convert to digital projectors. I need to take kids as they have never been to a drive in.
