My wife gets those Frontgate catalogs and I was looking at it last week and saw this:

This is what I see with this "package", since I actually saw one in actoin:

inflatable rear projection screen- you can buy rear screen material for a similar size for under $300. Wood or pvc frame will cost you maybe another $75 total

dlp projector with 2000-2500 lumens- most projectors with even 1/2 or less the lumen rating will work. You can buy as high as $1500 brand new to as low as $10 used

stereo speaker (wireless?) system - a similar thrift store setup will hit you around $50.00 but its wired- but wire's dirt cheap, even lamp cord will suffice. Spend a little more and you can get surround

dvd player- these used a portable, which nowadays can be had for as little as $100. Or get a real one for under $40.00

In short, you can duplicate $10k for anywhere between $500 all the way up around $2000. Save the rest for kids education.
