Totally understand what you mean.

This website and forums are here to promote the backyard theater experience.  A big part of that is bringing in new people.  Right now, that isn't happening at all.  The people who have been here for a while can keep talking with the other people who have been here for a while, but can't help, guide, or answer questions for any new people since no one new can use this website.

If there was an admin around to delete threads like this, that admin could also approve new members, and then we wouldn't have threads like this in the first place....

I don't mean any disrespect to Randy or anyone else but these forums have gone very stagnant whereas Facebook is an ever growing community.  Old members, new members, and everyone in between are invited to the FB group.  It's not just for people who can't get in here, it's also for people who are already here but want to continue helping new people instead of just posting with the same people again and again.

The FB group isn't there to make this site go away.  There's too much history and great information in the archives for that to happen.  It's meant to complement the website as simply another way to interact with people who share the same hobby.

I hope to see some of you there sharing your years of wisdom with people who are just finding out about this topic and are looking for advice.

Hi everyone,

These forums seems to be dead as no new people are getting approved.  So, someone started a Facebook Group that everyone is welcome to come join.

Head over to: http://www.facebook.com/groups/byt.backyard and join the discussions over there!

Thanks!

Do you take the screen down after each showing?  My first thought was to use Bungee Ball things and attach them to a metal pipe that could go vertical and then the pipe could be bungeed to the post.  But that would have to be redone each time you put it up and would probably require the ladder..  Unless you can somehow leave the bungees attached and just feed the pipe through them from the bottom or something...  hmm.

Never done it since my screen is only 3' off the ground.  But I'd just buy whatever black fabric is on sale somewhere and hang it like a curtain.  Probably have to add some velcro or something along the bottom of the screen or make a short PVC frame just to hold the curtain.

Link takes me to some Network Cabling...
6  Backyard Theater discussions / Screen specific / Where can I get an EMT Tee Connector? on: March 20, 2016, 12:31:11 pm
I've checked local Home Improvement Stores and Amazon and can't find any sort of "T" connector (or an "X" connector would work too) for 3/4" EMT pipe.  Only place I found was an online greenhouse store who wanted $12 for 2 and another $12 to ship them.  I figured there has to be a better (and cheaper) place to get them...

I have two stands that look very similar to these.
I also got a mounting bracket for each one to connect it to the stand.

Links don't work for me  Cry

I like the setup everette.. I keep looking on craigslist to try and find some bigger speakers like that for my BYT

Links are fixed.  I had some quotes in there that weren't needed...

I would probably get some longer speaker cords so you can have the speakers right up next to the screen.  I'd also set them on something to get them off the ground a bit as that helps the sound travel.
We always have people sitting close to the screen so I have the speakers sit right next to the screen itself as otherwise the speakers would be next to them and aiming back and they wouldn't hear it very well.

Looks like you need to zoom the image in so it doesn't go off the top.

I actually use the screen (not the stand) from my Gemmy in my basement.  I hang it from the drop ceiling tiles.

I think if the FB page is merely a vehicle for updates regarding this site and encouraging new BYTers to check us out, I would have no problem with it. However, there is no way of knowing that this would be the case. This site works so well because people are interested in asking questions and sharing knowledge. Selfishly, I want that info to be in one, easy to find place - here. The risk of an active FB page, as I see it, is that this site is diminished. Many people are so used to FB that it perhaps becomes the go-to place - either because people feel more comfortable posting there, or just don't want to join another forum. As I say, if it encourages others to seek this site out, I'm all for it. I just don't know whether that's all it will do, nor how anything more could be prevented. I'm concerned there's a chance of being spread too thinly.

That's the difference between a Facebook PAGE and a Facebook GROUP.  Groups are for discussions (which suck on Facebook).  Pages are just for the owner of the page to post things (like 99% of the other facebook pages out there) but aren't for active discussions.

Sure, users can post on a facebook page but it doesn't show up on the front page and rarely gets much conversation going so it wouldn't affect these forums at all.

Inside I use surrounds, the sub woofer, etc because it's an enclosed space and you can feel the effects.

Outside I used to use surrounds but don't any more.  I simply use a center channel and the main left & rights and it's great.

My vote would be no face book!  Huh

Can you explain why?

Facebook would simply be another way to get the word out about Backyard Theater.  If you don't want to see it on there, you just don't look at it.  It doesn't change the website or the way it's used right now.  Adding a facebook has nothing to do with the forums or the current community we have.  It would simply be a way to bring more people into this community.  There no reason not to have a facebook page at all.

IMO, BYT is better served by a forum type experience than a facebook type experience.

No one is saying that the forums go away or change what they are used for.  However, if there was an official BYT Facebook PAGE (not a group) it coudl be used for announcements like, Oh I don't know, that the site is down...

It's a place Randy could post pictures that users could then Share out to their own FB pages and probably drum up some more followers.  I would never suggest using FB as a discussion forum as it sucks for that.  But as a general place to post announcements, important updates, pictures, etc, it's great.

Most websites have a FB page these days as it's the norm.  Not having one just means those millions of users won't find out about your site even if they are friends with people who love it and would gladly share out cool pictures and things.
