Just saying 'hey' to check in.  Haven't done a backyard movie yet this year but will probably get one going soon.

I did take my projector over to a friend's house for a graduation party he was having for his daughter.  He projected some pictures and animation from his laptop, looping it, onto an inflated weather balloon!  Why ask why?  I don't know.

Looking forward to some cooler nights and cool movies.  Happy summer!

Cool images, Mr. Johnson!  Glad to see your signs and invites.  Welcome.

Rose Ranch is just a nickname for our domicile so it extended to the backyard screen as well.

Happy theater season to all...

Excellent points, Sparge.  Awkward...!

Our nickname for our theater is Rose Rat Theater as we always get one or two rats walking across the wires over our fence in the backyard each showing.  Exciting!  Repulsive!

Also had a nice intermission of a mama raccoon and three babies walking across our fence and up into the tree overhead during a show.

A couple of possums have also cruised by.

And our cat likes to join us.

Wait??/ The cat does not get rid of the rats?Huh Get a new cat LOL

Ha, well, the cat keeps them out of the house and that's good enough for me!  They're too high up on that high wire.  I've thought about sitting there with my Red Ryder BB gun though and wait on 'em.  Wink  No skunks so far.

Sometimes we have a bunch of the kids' friends over, or family friends, but most times it's just us and a friend.  Usually just popcorn for those low-key evenings.

If I were still in high school I would've loved seeing it with a bunch of friends at a backyard party.

Exactly, Corzak.  And Randy already mentioned some of the things I was thinking about, such as this being a hobby site for him.

I have a philosophical outlook on it, I guess.  For one, it's interesting to consider how things were just a week ago before this thread got started.  In other words, things were working as usual with a functioning forum and occasional new topics, etc.  Sure, changes could be made, but it's not like it's a crucial necessity and I figure that Randy will make any changes if and when he wants.  It's really none of my business.  We gather here for free, no charge.  And there's really no need for more traffic or for Randy to feel compelled to increase traffic.  It's just the little desires for some people here.

I visit several online forums and it's the same most everywhere.  Things have changed and that's life.  Facebook and handheld devices have cut down a lot of forum participation.  I used to make sites and monitor forums too.  It can be a drag sometimes and there can be some feeling that you owe people, even if you're doing it for free as a hobby.  Randy doesn't owe us anything, really.
If a newbie comes on with one or two posts saying things need to change, I have to question it.  Seems like some want to take control of things.  Anyone can create their own site, forum, FB page.

There's also the old adage, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it."  Smiley

Sure you may disagree, my friend.  What would you change?

Part of my stance is the aggravation that comes with some sites that are always tinkering with their layout, etc.  I remember at one time Yahoo was changing their layout every week it seemed like.  At that time I had been a user for many years and I just got tired searching their packed page looking for where I was supposed to log in this week.  It gets silly.  No longer a Yahoo user.

The "ton of good info that needs to be shared" is already being shared by anyone who happens to want to read it.  It's available.

The forum doesn't "need a major update."  It works fine.

To me this is one of those "build it and they will come" deals.  It's here for people who want to read it.  If someone is bothered by the wait for approval, I guess that's just the way it is.  Sounds like a minor inconvenience to me.

True that Facebook has probably taken some of the traffic from here and forums in general.  That's also just the way it is.  Traffic tends to increase when we hit summertime in the U.S.

Hey, Koolio!  Welcome.  My only suggestion would be to go with the 16x9 screen.  You'll be glad you did.  I'll let others comment on the projector and sound.  Enjoy!

Sorry to hear about the recent turmoil, Glen, but congratulations on the new place and setting up a new theater.  Here's to new, good memories with the kids.

Pretty good line-up, though I'd probably pass on the Transformers movie, too.  Wink  Nice that you took a poll and are offering what your friends asked for.

My screen frame (PVC) broke in some strong winds last week!  Time for repairs...
15  Backyard Theater discussions / General discussion / Re: OK for those of us not living in the South or CA what is your first movie of the on: March 31, 2015, 04:57:14 pm
Big Hero 6 was really good and works for kids & adults.
I was thinking about showing the Roger Ebert documentary, Life Itself, but it may be only for a select few.

I'll have to think about it some more!
