1  Backyard Theater discussions / Screen specific / Can we get a stickey?? on: June 05, 2009, 09:48:59 am
Is there a possibility of getting a sticky of frame designs for screens. I feel it would be much easier for others to browse one sticky for frame design (since it seems to be popular) and we could have everyone who's willing put there screen designs there. Just a suggestion.
Would anyone else like to see this happen?
Thanks!

We might host movie night this year. We usually get together as a group for a movie marathon starting around noon with adults. We'll start in the house and then do the finale outside.
Original Horror Movies from our generation

Friday the 13th
Nightmare On Elm Street
The Hills Have Eyes
Evil Dead
Texas Chainsaw Massacre
Dead Alive (for the lawnmower scene at the end)

Finale -  Halloween - Outside.

I am not sure if this will be one Watch the trailer...it's pretty sick and twisted and campy!
The Machine Girl.

I just make up a batch of good ol' buttered and then sprinkle Grated Parmesan Cheese(The powdered kinfd, not the shredded kind) over it while it's fresh and hot. Easy and no clean up!

You could also use MS Power Point, or Open Office Impress (like power point, but free) at http://why.openoffice.org/why_easy.html. Just create your slides  export the images. Put the images in Windows Movie Maker, add music and output ti AVI that can be burned with Nero Vision to DVD.

I know it's not a one step one click process, but you asked how others do it on here. Hope this helps. Good Luck.

Favorite movie scenes.

1. Scariest - Alien(the first one) then the alien came out of that guys chest.

2. Sexiest/steamiest- (non rated x) 9 1/2 weeks- feeding Kim Basinger strawberries or the table scene in The Postman Always Rings Twice.

3. Comedic- Anything in Airplane, or the body waxing in the 40 Year Old Virgin.

4. Dramatic- Shawshank Redemption Tim standing in the rain.

5. Bloodiest/Grossest- When Joe Pesci gets the bat beat down in Casino.

6. Chase Scene- Toss up (most might say Steve McQueen in  Bullet) but I liked the chase scene in Grindouse - Death Proof and the Mini Cooper Chase in The Italian Job

I use my laptop connected to a 5 piece dell surround speakers. I use VLC (free) player to load a playlist of the intros, previews and the feature presentation. I can't turn it up all the way, it gets pretty loud. Not earthshaking, but it gets the job done.n jUst make sure that the laptop sound is turned up all the way and that VLC is turned up all the way. I use the volume on the DELL sub\spkr setup to turn it up and down since I sit next to it anyway (in case something does go awry).

I got your email. I am leaving for vacation (camping in an RV at the beach) for a week. I am taking my projector and my grey wolf (or maybe just a sheet) to hang from the side of the RV.  I will contact you when I get back and purchase it if you still have it then. Thx much!

Since the dawn of the internet there have been IM, Chat Rooms, and everything and anything else that needs a login. I had Rooster (had to change it to R005T3R bacuse it was always taken, and sometimes it's Th3R005T3R) for a game handle when I was younger and now for IM and forums. It came from an Alice in Chain song about Jerry Cantrell's (Guitar Player\Vocals) father who was in Vietnam. They all had nicknames (watch Full Metal Jacket) and his dad's was The Rooster. I just always thought it was cool.

Rooster Lyrics
Quote
Aint found a way to kill me yet
Eyes burn with stinging sweat
Seems every path leads me to nowhere
Wife and kids household pet
Army green was no safe bet
The bullets scream to me from somewhere

Here they come to snuff the rooster
Yeah here come the rooster, yeah
You know he aint gonna die
No, no, no, ya know he aint gonna die

Walkin tall machine gun man
They spit on me in my home land
Gloria sent me pictures of my boy
Got my pills gainst mosquito death
My buddys breathin his dyin breath
Oh God please wont you help me make it through

Here they come to snuff the rooster
Yeah here come the rooster, yeah
You know he aint gonna die
No, no, no ya know he aint gonna die

I was reading somewhere else that Disney has an license  period of like Aug - Sept. where a licenses are given out by SWANK, www.swank.com. But here is a good place to get licensing information and about the Disney "license" time period.

every time you show a movie, it doesn't matter if it is the same movie you need a license for it. usually the organization that is showing the movie has to get the license but sometimes the owner of the "BYT" will purchase them.

you are not allowed to charge admission, if you do they take a hefty percentage of it. you are allowed to sell concessions and ask for donations.

the two licensing places are www.swank.com and www.criterion.com, swank is the most used throughout the US.

you are not allowed to show disney movies outside (except for a few weeks in august / september).  this is from another thread Disney will license their movie between Aug 1 and Sept 21, but the audience has to be under 200 people.  Licensing is done outdoors for Disney by Swank.

this is a good thread about taxes and licenses...
http://backyardtheater.com/forums/index.php?topic=2468.msg20489#msg20489

licenses aren't cheap... starting around $300.00 per showing and depending on number of people attending.

Here is the thread http://backyardtheater.com/forums/index.php?topic=2674.msg22210#msg22210

I am assuming that this does not apply to having friends over to watch something in your backyard (it would be just like you invited them over inside your house), but applies to your setting in a public area (parks and recreations)

Can you elaborate a bit more on show copy right movies for public showings for around $650.00 per year?
14  Backyard Theater discussions / General discussion / Re: New site location on: July 21, 2008, 11:20:44 am
A beach In MI.Huh HA HA Just bustin your chops. I used to live in Gibraltar, MI..but moved to So Cal. That's why I joke about it when my relatives say the went to the beach in Mi.  Grin
Looks like a good place to show a movie. I would be concerned about what parks and recreation would do if they found out. Would it be considered a public showing since in public property? Would they just tell you to pack it up, or would you get a ticket..just a few thoughts before you take it all down to the "beach".
15  Backyard Theater discussions / General discussion / Re: How to downmix 5.1 to 2 channel? on: July 21, 2008, 11:16:20 am
Not sure if this applies, but I use my laptop hooked to the projector. I use VLC player and under the audio menu item, you can choose 2 ch stereo, or 5.1 surround etc..
Although their should be an option on the DVD player if it's available. I don't know what brand you have, so it's hard to tell.
