Hey Tom, you replied in the avs thread.
So I'm NOT crazy. Now if only I could convince my wife.

hmmm..thought I replied earlier.....

Good idea for the patch. I've been using duct tape and it seems (pardon the pun!) to work.

After an Irene rain-delayed neighborhood picnic, we managed to get through it on Sunday (9/4/11) thinking that with the Monday, Labor Day holiday we'd have a good turnout. Turns out it worked. Had about 30, which is the most we've had in AGES!

So....
Falls Ridge Fox intro
Looney Toon "The Night Watchman"
Main show "Night at the Museum: Battle for the Smithsonian"

A good time was had by all.

Details on the marquee? Did you make it, buy it....? It looks great! I might consider adding that for my deck theater.

Shameless bump and updated links to pictures in first post.

Northern VA only got about 20 hours of a steady rain. Rained out the neighborhood picnic/movie AND the rain date!

Excellent idea!

I thought  a tree fort had to be, you know, in a tree. I'm just sayin'.

Welcome aboard! GREAT Start! Keep up the good work.

As a side note, a LOOOONG time ago, I spent two years in Pottstown teaching at the Hill School.

I would second (OK, now I third monoprice since someone posted a second just ahead of me!)  the monoprice cables. They have them in thicker gauges than what you can find in the big box stores. And SIGNIFICANTLY cheaper, too. I have a couple long ones (35' & 50)  from them in my basement theater and they tested out fine. Basement's not finished so I can't give an "I use them every day and they're great" type endorsement, but they tested fine. You should be fine using their thicker cables.

We got rained out last Friday and it was PERFECT weather right up until we started to set up.

How loud are you playing it? It could be the amp clipping. Is there a gain setting? You may need to use different settings than you normally use. Do you have test disc for setup?

We've been rained out a couple of times this year here in Northern VA, but lately it's been the HEAT. Registered a heat index as high 115. Temps in the low 100s and HIGH humidity. That's outside the projector's operating range.

We're going to try again this Friday night.

Thanks for the kind words and thanks to Randy for setting it up!

Now that I'm back from vacation, I can get caught up (cell coverage was terrible this trip)! I did the interview right before leaving for vacation, so the timing worked out. Lisa  was great to speak with. It was obvious that she has a great interest in the whole outdoor movie experience.

And I'd just like to add my welcome to Washington Times readers. As I'm local to D.C., I'd be more than happy to answer any questions. Maybe even arrange a visit if you like to see my setups. Feel free to contact me.

Randy -

Did you see my email reply?

I'm leaving town Thursday, 7/28 so it HAS to get done quick.
15  Backyard Theater discussions / General discussion / Re: Maybe it is me........... not the weather! on: July 25, 2011, 12:55:25 pm
Same here. Outside temp reading my truck had on the way home Friday hit 112 in a couple of places and was "down" to 109 in the driveway. No way the projector can operate at those temps.
