I agree with the door-to-door approach for righting the ship and a mia culpa of Cars or Finding Nemo is in order.

The neighbors should understand and forgive if you ask them to and by showing family movies in the future they may not forget, but you will all laugh about it...someday.

I did a 16th birthday party and they wanted "The Longest Yard" I told them no, they found a company that cleans up movies to make them family friendly, they got the move from that company, and I was shocked it was actually really well done and no one notice the bad stuff was removed.

Best thing to do is to do the movie free and invite "friends and family" and then ask for donations for food and drinks, for charity a $10 hotdog and drink is ok. this will keep royalties out of it as they usually take 60% for the privilege. So free movie and expensive concessions is the best way to host a fund raiser.

Tom,
I have not tried this recipe, but it looks good to me based on other toffee recipes I have used.

BUTTER TOFFEE POPCORN

1 cup butter (no substitutions)
2 cups light brown sugar
1/2 cup light corn syrup
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 batches popcorn
1 jar dry roasted peanuts (optional)

Melt butter, stir in brown sugar, corn syrup, and salt. Bring mixture to boil; boil hard for 5 minutes without stirring.

Remove from heat, add baking soda and vanilla. Stir quickly and pour over popcorn and mix well. Spread in a roasting pan.

Bake for 1 hour in a 250 degree F oven. Every 15 minutes, remove from oven and stir to mix evenly. Remove from oven and spread on absorbent paper to cool.

Warning: It doesn't last long in the house! Hide some from the kids for yourself!

I make a Reese's Peanut Butter Cup Cheesecake that uses a full 40oz bag of the minis.

It is always a crowd pleaser.

OK, this is easier than cooking for others....

I just tried a batch of each of these:

Butterscotch
Andes Mint
White Chocolate

I am not a big fan of the Andes Mint, it had a nice flavor, just too much going on with the sweet, salty and minty.
The butterscotch and White Chocolate where both yummy.(official culinary term) Grin

Good Idea Keith.

It has been a really crazy year.
I haven't even set the screen up in 6 months.

I run mine a little different.

I have trivia running as they come in and up until show time.

I will then have the safety, clean-up and noise slides, right into a short, a music video and then my trailer, then the feature starts, I am in the 8 -10 minute range for the pre-show, less the trivia.

The trivia can loop for 15 minutes or for an hour, depending on the event.

Since I can't leave good enough alone, I also tried this again and instead of Peanut Butter I added 3/4 of chocolate chips. MMMMMM That sweet and salt together is always a treat.

I am presuming that any flavor chips would have a similar result.

I found a 5 minute recipe for some awesome peanut butter popcorn.

1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup honey

Bring to a boil

Add 1 tsp vanilla

Remove from heat

add 1/2 cup peanut butter

stir until peanut butter is incorporated.

Pour over 2 qts of popcorn, gently stir popcorn until evenly coated.

let cool - if you can.

Back in the mid 80s I was a "high profile specialist" for a limo company on the east coast. I have pretty much met anybody and everybody that was on concert tours between 83 and 88. Including Frank Sinatra, Neil Diamond, and Dolly Parton (they are really that BIG!) All the pop, rock and country groups of the era were in my car, we were a contracted company with 4 different civic centers and 2 concert promoters.

I got car jacked while Billy Joel and Christy Brinkly and their daughter were at the Playoff games at Fenway in 86 (I think).

Sounds like they are not licensing the movies, Disney is notorious for not allowing outside showings of their catalog.

Set some ground rules and enforce them, if the employees refuse to get involved, you are in a sinking ship.

I would like to sell the entire set-up as one, if this doesn't happen, I will rethink this and price everything seperately.
