1  Backyard Theater discussions / General discussion / Magica USB to HDMI adapter on: September 22, 2011, 11:25:18 am

Has anyone used the MyGica USB to HDMI adapter to project your pc screen to a projector or big screen that has an HDMI input

I bought it for 42.99 on E-bay with Buy it now from Merit Line which I thought was a deal, I have seen them for upwards of $65-$100
Here's a link
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Mygica-USB-HDMI-1080P-Adapter-Audio-/150660258108?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item23140d193c
I am using it to mirror my HP Touch Smart 610 1110t 23" HD monitor, it does not have an HDMI port so I use the MyGica which plugs into the USB port and it has an ougoing HDMI to the big screen LG LCD. I wonder how this would work with a projector that has an HDMI input

3  Backyard Theater discussions / Screen specific / Re: Carl's Screen Discount? on: May 21, 2011, 08:56:31 pm
I've not heard of any discount for BYT members from Carl.  He did have a general discount going in the off season last Winter.  I suspect that's because it was the "off season".  Regardless, that discount's long over.

There's evidentally a textile shortage now and Carl's having trouble getting material.  He had to switch to something different on his last shipment.  It's gray on one side now but it doesn't look like the kind of gray one would want to make into a screen.  The other side's still white though.  Just don't get that side dirty I guess because you can't flip it around any more.

Does Carl have a web site or do you have more of a name for a web search
Thanks
Lee

4  Backyard Theater discussions / Screen specific / Re: Costco barckyard screen made larger on: May 21, 2011, 08:55:17 pm
I needed a low profile screen to sit on a stage but only have around 10' in total height. Wanted the largest  size as possible.  The barkyard screen sits about 2' of the ground. The stage is 3.5' in height. Viewing height should be fine. I already had 2 b/y screens.  I tooks parts from one to enlarge the frame to a 12' x 7' unit. As you know the b/y screen snaps to gether. I made 4 sleeves to match the frame poles. Each sleve is 4" long and holes drilled for the snap fittings to lock.  I ordered a 12' x 7' screen from Carl's. So now I have the option of the 12' x 7' or the standard b/y size. I answered the clients demands for a large picture under tight requirements. Only extra cost was the carl's screen, but that will pay for its self. I try my best not to turn down gigs unless the client is just to demanding or the cost does justify spending extra money I will not see a return on.   rg

Anyone have a link or web site for Carl's

Regards
Lee

When on the water during my saltwater boating days I always kept an eye on the weather & lightning. Anyone have any close calls with lightning in BYT?

I have been following this product for a few years & can never come up with the cash to buy one. It looks like a good product.

Anyone use it? I was thinking it would be good for my sons games too. A few years ago I pulled him from a game when the umpire would not call it. Crazy....... Richard

Found this one for about 67.00 and it looks like it has more features

12  Backyard Theater discussions / General discussion / Professor Marvel To Appear at White Lake Outdoor Auto Theatre on: April 18, 2011, 01:17:23 pm
Well spring is just around the corner and this is my first year in the Backyard Theater business
I know that it is important to have a good relationship with your neighbors even if they are  a couple of acres away.
This question is for the BYT operator that has had experience in neighbor relations.

1. Have you ever been reported for displaying your screen in your backyard  (family rated features) ?
2. Is volume a serious issue,  "NOISE COMPLAINTS" ?
3. Do strangers pull into your yard looking for a concession stand LOL
I thought I would invite the neighbors over and have a special guest star for our opening night, we are thinking of having Frank Morgan at the grand opening like theaters and Drive-Ins have in years past.  Professor Marvel should be a big hit with his crystal ball, juggling and sleight of hand.  If anyone has any information on his whereabouts please e-mail me at mrlee@driveinmovienetwork.com

Here is the banner we will display along the roadside
BTW  The questions about neighbors are genuine and your feedback is most appreciated
All the best
Mr. Lee

Most of my energy for the next few weeks is dedicated to my basement remodel. Mid-century modern living room/lounge/home theater. Fun fun! I've got until the 5th of May to get it all sorted and ready for the carpet installation.

Offending the style sensibilities of my facebook friends is only a bonus as I post the kitschy items I am scavenging for the decor.

Examples!

Love the clock and chair and to quote Dorothy
"Oh, but anyway, Toto, we’re home. Home! And this is my room, and you’re all here. And I’m not gonna leave here ever, ever again, because I love you all, and – oh, Auntie Em – there’s no place like home!"

15  Backyard Theater discussions / Screen specific / Re: Billboard Vinyl on: April 18, 2011, 12:25:00 pm
I'm really feeling accomplished this morning! I've been looking for some used vinyl billboard material for a few years.... No one has it, its already claimed for recycle, they don't sell to the public, etc.etc,  You name it I've heard it.
But today.... Today I get this email out of the blue... "I have a piece you can have is the address below good, so I can have my driver drop it off when he will be in that area?"...
I'M GETTING MY BILLBOARD VINYL!! MY PERMANENT SCREEN DREAM WILL SOON BE A REALITY!!

Now to finish the plans of a frame and some black eave trim as the screen frame....  Wink
Its gonna be a nice summer....

Please post images of your screen or better yet during the construction, I'm new to this and am always looking for an inexpensive idea for a screen
If I needed to purchase this billboard vinyl what do you think it would cost?
Congrats on the screen and thanks in advance for any advice you may have
