17 Backyard Theater discussions / General discussion / Re: Most comfortable outdoor seating on: May 19, 2014, 02:02:00 pm
for big parties i have a trio of inflatable couches that can fit 2-3 people comfortably, 2 inflatable lounge chairs for 1-2 (very small) people, outdoor rugs with warm fluffy extra blankets, comforters, pillows for the people sitting on the ground, we had an aging fleet of plastic lawn chairs but we are now in the middle of upgrading them with some slightly more comfortable sling chairs from kmart:

http://www.kmart.com/search=outdoor%20patio%20sling%20chairs?catalogId=10104&storeId=10151&levels=Outdoor+Living_Patio+Furniture&autoRedirect=true&viewItems=50&redirectType=CAT_REC

not the cheapest option at $28 each but nice colors and a lot more comfortable than we had.

second, third, and fourth all the above mentions. i've also dug further and can recommend the Pink Panther Classic Cartoon Collection (amazon link for reference) http://www.amazon.com/Pink-Panther-Classic-Cartoon-Collection/dp/B0009S4J2I/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1399044374&sr=8-3&keywords=pink+panther+collection

the looney tunes platinum collections on blu ray are definitive must haves

the tom and jerry golden collection 1 is a gold mine

the newer mickey mouse cartoon shorts are great short clips! http://www.youtube.com/user/DisneyShorts

i also rummage through the dollar dvd bins every store i go to but mostly kmarts and walmarts will often have less popular/much older toon collections. i've attained many older popeye toons, betty boop, and Max Fleischer toons this way http://www.youtube.com/v/114MJzd-yQk

i try to keep the toons to about 6-8 mins at most. 20-30 mins total

Yes I have the same model and firmware. I'm seeing same shots you show as well. One difference is I'm not currently able to put my movies and intermission videos in a playlist because this unit does not allow playlist creation when your files are network located. If I were to get those particular files (the various cinema ads, music vids, 'toons) onto a usb drive, then I could setup playlists again. I too would like a streamlined cinema experience using this unit but as far as network capabilities my htpc with xbmc and the Cinema Experience plug in can and does the job very well.

there is custom firmware that i do not use so i cannot state weather or not they fix these issues. FrostyFreeze has the model before this iteration and it has custom firmware, so he may be able to shed some light if he gets that same "loading" arrow and the top left text box.

edit: b.rad firmware is one of the most popular custom firmwares available. i plan on someday buying a refurbed wdtv live plus and installing it to see what i can monk with

Ribs, Bricks, and Flicks

short update. after several "consultations" with the wife about Mega-Tronn Theaters' future, we've decided to lop off one foot from the bottom of the screen! the screen size shall now be 16'W x 8'T! definetly not true 16x9 ratio widescreen, but some thoughts were that about 60% of our movies are not 16:9 anyway! most newer ones are in the cinemascope range!

so in a way Mega Tronn Theater will be the "brunch" of the BYT world. not exactly 16:9, but not exactly 2.55:1 but theres a piece of cantaloupe at the end (obvious Simpsons episode inferred)

however, just before anything can be done to the screen or frame... the Mega Tronn Theater landscape must be beautified!

so we start with some ribs:

then we go to some bricks:

then we end the day with some flicks:

28 Backyard Theater discussions / General discussion / Re: What do you do for mosquito control? on: April 16, 2014, 12:50:41 am
What I'm hoping to do with this thread is to create a mega-thread of various options that are available for mosquito control, maybe with approximate prices of each option (if forum rules allow), and links to relevant threads about each option. I'll update the initial post for this thread to include links that other posters provide about various solutions.

i can dig it. just change the thread title to Mosquito Control Central/MegaThread and do update the first post with links to the various existing threads and prices of the various doo-dads. im not entirely sure posting direct links to purchase these items would be cool with the forum. maybe just suggest where one can find them.

right away OA! Grin
the trickiest of all these "to do's" would be the underground pipe(s) with power, video cables, and audio cables. i have to plan ahead a bit and think of what i could possible use in the future that i dont use now.

ive looked at my tarp (also from billboard tarps) and i do notice some "hard" creases. havent unrolled it yet but i'll try to get the best area for the screen. meant to finally replace that torn patio cover today then unroll and cut my tarp but the water heater decided today was the best day to spring a leak!

i wonder how difficult it would be for me to first do the glueing of the seam and then have it sewn by some industrial strength sewing machines... some AMERICAN MADE (in temecula) sewing machines! Cheesy
