OK, let's make this a rain barrel thread.  I have 5 barrels that I got from someone who was using them and upgraded their setup.  I have no idea what to do with them.

One or two of them have a hose connector at the bottom and some have holes in the top for a downspout.  Not sure how to attach them all together.

I think I might put 2 on each of the back corners of my house where the down spouts are and connect them that way.  I guess I'll have to do some research.

Do you generally want them higher in the air so the pressure is greater when it comes out the hose or does that not really matter?  hmmm.

UPDATE
OK just read your other reply while I was typing this one.  SO you have a pump that actually pumps the water from the barrels through your hose.  I might have to look into that but I wouldn't use it for the lawn, just for the garden areas.

I only use the pump for the lawn...if I'm doing the flowerpots or filling birdbaths I just take the top off a barrel and dip in a couple watering cans to fill them up.

<hippie mode ON>

I can say that there is some karma-ey satisfaction watering green things with untreated rainwater.

Mid-2010 Season Update...Today's Episode ==> Then The Rains Came And Washed All The Crops Away

Before 7" of rain...

...and after. The bicycle adds to the dramatic effect, no?

We normally don't allow motorized vehicles in the theater seating area, but today we are making an exception.

The theater should be back in operation next weekend. <fingers crossed>

.....and we are back on the air.

Held our first movie night since the biblical-worthy flood last night.  Showed Almost Famous and drank a lot of Puerto Rican rum.

Unbelievably *none* of our baby-boomer guests had ever seen the movie...it was a great hit!

Firepit after the movie and drank more while watching "Hogging all the Covers" by Band From TV

Still some rum left in the bottle, so tonight it will me and it and the last three episodes of Firefly.

2011 Rain Barrel Update...Forgot to Empty Barrels Before Hard Freeze Edition

I had to do a bit of maintenance on my barrels this year due to procrastination last fall/winter. Cleaned things up a bit, increased the size of the "manifold" that allows them to fill/empty as one unit and added an outdoor sump pump in a low area that now also feeds the monster.

All rainwater, all the time.

Dear Patron,

It is with some bittersweetness that we announce the closing of the Spring Avenue Starlight Backyard Theater after five seasons of family entertainment.  Declining attendance, changing demographics and the economics of real estate have contributed to our decision to close.

We have accepted an offer for the Spring Avenue Starlight land...a new strip mall will be built shortly after we close, allowing former BYT patrons to shave 372 yards off their Starbucks, Subway and Payday Loan drive.

We will be going out with a bang...there will be one more movie night and we will pull out all the stops!  In addition to an extended “social hour”, hamburgers & hot dogs will be served along with our usual popcorn & candy.

Voting on the last movie is hot & heavy here in "vote early & often" Chicagoland...The Lincoln Lawyer, Big Fish and O Brother are leading.

We are targeting the first weather-friendly Saturday after the Labor Day weekend...9/10 is looking good on the extended forecast right now.

Sincerely,
The Management
