Well the last time I was here the movie night did not go well. Bad screen choice and noisy neighbors. I am happy to report that all went well this time a dry run for next Saturday for Easter.
I am still waiting for the Dazion samples to arrive in the mail and until then I tried two things for the screen
First, I tried to find a white cloth tarp without seams at all the major home stores in the greater Phoenix area and struck out. I even tried a sign making company and when I told the sales clerk what the size was he almost fell off his stool. He said the largest vinly that he carried was only 54" wide and would have to be seamed which is what I don't want. So I got a 9x12 canvas tan tarp and painted a little of it to see if it would take paint. I did but I will have to take all wrinkles and creases out first and yes, there is a seam. More on this as I work on it
Second, While I had the paint sprayer out I painted the Poly Tarp I used the last time just to dull up the shine. I used cheap matt flat white primer from Home Depot. I know that it won't last but I need something until I get the tarp painted, find longer BO cloth or get the Dazion. The result of the painting was Awesome! I was skeptical but it was a VAST improvement on the shiny stuff. I experimented with a couple of Loony Toons and they looked great. I couldn't see any hot spots and wrinkles were gone. There are some puckers where the bungee balls pull but not really noticable unless a very bright scene came on.
The movies I tried was C.B. DeMill's Ten Commandments. I'm not religous I just know an epic work of art. The move looked great and is formatted for 16:9. The colors were great. I am going to tell all at the Easter party that this is the movie we will watch all 3 hours plus of it
THe main movie we screened was V for Vendetta and other than being letterboxed it was a great viewing. No loud car stereos and no hot spots in the screen. I hope it lasts for another showing. I put Lord of the Rings and Star Wars III on to get some photo shots.
Next week I hope to have the Popcorn machine from Costco and have the Cotton Candy machine ready for my Theater working son to do his thing at our concession stand. The name I chose was due to the moon was out but wasn't a problem with watching the movie and that I live in Mesa Az. hence, Mesa Luna. Sounds better than table moon. Great weather here by the way no wind. Pics attached.
