I've had a basic setup for about two years now and everything has been just ok.  We typically just do movies in the summer and football games in the fall.  I use a set of computer speakers inside the garage when the crowd is small and if we are outside I have a pair of outdoor speakers.  I want to improve the sound to include a larger crowd.  I'm looking primarily at a PA system for the easy setup and takedown.  Don't need 5.1 or anything like that for games and such.  I have a budget of about $500.  Anything worth getting at that price point?

Thanks, KT

$500 might get you into some used JBL Eons or Mackie Thumps.  There's also a Fender Passport system and the Peavey Audio Performer Pack that you could get new.  You could definitely get an amp and a pair of unpowered speakers from some guy on Craigslist who had a band back when he was cool.  Make sure to get stands as well.
