My brother and sister in law live in San Diego and own a soccer league there. My nephew plays for the Guam National Soccer Team. The family has hours of video that they watch at their house with anywhere from 4 to 30 people at a time. Right now they jam into a small living room and watch a 32" LCD tv. They have a large covered patio in the backyard and I want to put a screen and projector out there for them. I found an Epson MovieMate 30 (1200 lumens, 1000:1, 854 x 480) with all the original cables, remote and subwoofer for $100. I know it's only 480p, but I started with a Cinego (900 lumens, 1500:1, 854 x 480) on a 98" BOC screen and it was a very watchable picture. The bulb has 600 hours on it (new ones run from $110 -$130), so worst case is there is $250 invested. I have enough BOC to build them a 90"-98" screen. No sun or rain gets on the wall where the screen will go, so they'll have a permanent viewing area. I'm sure they'll watch an occasional movie on it, but it will be primarily soccer stuff. I think it being an all in one with the subwoofer should make an easy "plug & play" system. Thought I'd see if you all have any thoughts on this.

I have had one for five years in two months I  use it outside & inside & love it. I really do think it is great. What are you going to do for audio? This is where it gets a little trick.

I have a couple Lepai 20 watt amps that I got from Amazon ($20/ea). They have analog inputs and spring clip speaker wire out. I'm thinking 3.5mm headphone jack/analog RCA from the projector to the amp. If the projector won't control volume through headphone jack, we'll have to find an old surround receiver or set of computer speakers. Got going for super fancy, just trying not have a bunch of guys crammed together in a small room.

I use one of those lil $20 amps for my mobile setup myself and they work great for what they are

The only issue if with the amp is that it does not have a remote for the volume. I suppose if it did, it would be more than $20.

Just got my brother in law's projector. For a 480p projector, it has a pretty good picture. I shot it on my grey indoor screen and it seemed to be a bit dark for me. I think it will look better on a BOC screen. The audio was not bad, plenty loud enough for an "intimate" patio gathering of 10 - 20 people. Another plus - 60 hours on the unit! Merry Christmas to him.
